What Is a Paramedic?
A Paramedic is an advanced healthcare provider trained to deliver critical, life-saving care in emergency situations. Paramedics perform advanced procedures such as cardiac monitoring, medication administration, airway management, and trauma care. They respond to 911 calls and work in ambulance services, fire departments, hospitals, flight/air medical teams, and specialized rescue units.
Program Description
Paramedic is the advanced-level certification for the EMS profession. The Paramedic Program is a 12 month program. The goal of the program is “To prepare Paramedics who are competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains to enter the profession.” The program meets the requirements set forth in the National EMS Education Standards aligning with Florida statutes and administrative code through classroom, skills laboratory, clinical rotations, and field internship courses.
Accreditation
The Treasure Coast Medical and Fire Institute Paramedic Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation by the Committee on Accreditation for Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP). Graduates of the program are eligible to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians' (NREMT) Paramedic cognitive exam that also serves as the state certification exam.
